Clooney might play Obama’s righthand man

(WASHINGTON D.C.) He’s always on some channel, somewhere. Now President Barack Obama is entertaining the idea of moonlighting on the small screen.

He’s in talks to star in a new show with either NBC or HBO.

“Look, I’m on television every night anyway,” Obama told The Peoples News as he packed for his trip to Europe. “I might as well get paid for it.”

Obama promised to have a transparent government, and in the last two weeks, he has held 28 televised press conferences, been a guest on The Tonight Show, Larry King, 60 Minutes, and The View, felled 12 trees on Ax Men, hosted Saturday Night Live, finished second on an episode of The Amazing Race, and turned out to be the sixth Cylon on Battlestar Galactica.

“Accountability and transparency—that’s the idea of my presidency,” Obama said. “You didn’t think I’d go through with it, did you?”

NBC President Ben Silverman said the network offered Obama the 10 p.m. hour every week night, the slot they had previously offered Jay Leno. Silverman says the president has a charisma and style that will certainly attract viewers to his struggling network, whether it’s in a drama, sitcom or talk show.

“Anyone who thinks they can pull our economy out of the toilet certainly won’t be worried about pulling NBC out of the toilet,” Silverman said. “Honestly, we’re desperate. I mean, have you seen Kings? Has anyone?”

The network hopes to cast Obama as a straight-laced cop who’s partnered with an older, wacky partner. Most of the show would occur in the squad room, much like Barney Miller.

Sue Naegle, president of HBO Entertainment, said the cable channel also wants Obama to play a police officer, but on the gritty streets of New Orleans. He’ll be paired with a wacky, borderline psychotic partner played by George Clooney.

“It will be like Lethal Weapon meets Menace to Society, only starring the President and not as good,” Naegle said. “We have really high hopes that it will make us a relevant channel again.”

Obama, who will be in Europe for a week, said he will decide which show he’ll tackle when he gets back.

“Look, of course I might do both of them—I can handle more than one thing at once,” he said. “And besides, the more of me on TV, the better.”
